Taste Education: Turnips

Kitchen boredom setting in? Want to try something new? Curious for a new recipe?

The Worthington Farmers Market will host our once monthly "Taste Education" event tomorrow starting at 9:00 AM, where we will inspire healthy eating, and connect you with your food and its producer(s).

This series will reflect the diversity of our ingredients and the creativity of our dedicated volunteers who prepare them. Samples, recipes, printed information, or the raw ingredients themselves may be a few ways you'll enjoy our "Taste Education" series.

This month, it's all about the turnip. Turnips are often ridiculed, but after centuries of abuse, they're making a comeback! Turnips are known for their storage potential and nutritional content.

Turnips are rich in vitamin C, potassium and calcium. Their greens top the nutritional charts as an excellent source of vitamins A, C and B complex, in addition to magnesium and calcium. Turnips are also believed to prevent cancer.

And one last fun fact... An English maiden would present her suitor with a turnip when rejecting him.

In addition to our normal activities and your favorite weekly vendors, you'll start to see some new faces around. As we prepare for a new outdoor season and seek to enhance your experience, we're giving some of our new additions a chance to get acclimated. So please, stop by, say hello and try something new!
