Health Tip #4: Eat Nuts Everyday
Nuts add years to your life, and life to your years!
Large studies show those who eat nuts 5 or more times per week significantly decreased their risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. Specifically, consumption of peanuts and tree nuts (>2 times per week) and walnuts (>1 time per week) was associated with a 13% to 19% lower risk of total cardiovascular disease. (1)
Researchers from Harvard have determined that increasing nut intake (1 oz. >2 times per week) reduced incidence of pancreatic cancer 35% and diabetes 32%.
"The reason for nut's ability to reduce cancer, diabetes and heart disease relates to a combination of their healthy fats, amino acids, antioxidants minerals and other phytonutrients." (2)
Harvard and Brigham and Women's Hospital confirmed that eating >5 servings of nuts per week increased cognitive skills, at least in elderly women. (3)
Review of two large prospective U.S. studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine 2013, shows a significant dose dependent inverse relationship between nut consumption and total mortality. In other words, those who ate nuts >7 times per week had a 20% lower death rate than those who did not eat nuts. (4)
Eat nuts everyday!
