Worthington Farmers Market: January 19

Market Sprouts with Cynthia's Flowers

We're teaming up with Cynthia's Flowers and OSUCCC-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute to make a difference!

Cynthia Rudolph passed away at age 40 from lymphoma leaving behind a husband and young son. As a patient, no matter what Cynthia faced - she always stayed positive. It was important to her that others could still see beauty in life despite having to go through cancer treatments like herself. Due to weak immune systems and the risk of infection on inpatient cancer floors, live plants and flowers are prohibited. Cynthia’s desire to add some cheerfulness drove her to develop a simple solution: create brightly colored flowers made from tissue paper.

Now, with the help of her family and friends, bunches of Cynthia’s Flowers have been delivered to various hospitals throughout the country, and today, Cynthia is remembered for her beautiful smile and her belief in remaining strong and positive throughout treatment. Her legacy continues providing hope and inspiration to others.

YOU can help continue Cynthia's legacy... Join us to make paper flowers!

Tomorrow during our monthly Market Sprouts activity, we will be making paper flowers to share with local hospitals. Market goers can donate their flowers or take it to someone with cancer who needs some extra cheer.

Make a flower. Share some hope.

Health Tip #29: Kombucha, To Your Health

Multiple health benefits associated with kombucha (fermented tea) consumption in 75 studies!

Kombucha originated in the third century BC in China and has been utilized by many cultures thousands of years. It is a probiotic drink rich in good bacteria that helps with gut health and immune system balance. It contains many enzymes, antioxidants, amino acids and polyphenols which support health. A look at a number of recently gathered studies shows kombucha to be a good detoxifier, decreasing absorption of and increasing excretion of many environmental toxins. It is a potent antioxidant that effectively reduces oxidative stress that is associated with many of our modern chronic diseases such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Finally, kombucha contains potent antibacterials which may help decrease the need for synthetic prescription antibacterials. (1)
