Lifestyle Matters. How we eat, move, sleep and manage stress has an enormous impact on health and longevity.
Health Tip #38: Health and Disease Begins in the Gut (1)
More and more studies are showing a direct connection between the health of the gut and the overall health of the body and brain. Common sense tells us "garbage in, garbage out." If we consistently eat processed/inflammatory foods and toxic water contaminated with toxins, antibiotics, hormones and a multitude of other chemicals, is it surprising that we are seeing an epidemic of chronic diseases characterized by chronic inflammation. Gluten, dairy, sugar, corn consumption are associated with inflammation in the gut. It is estimated that as much as 70% of our immune system is in our gut! Is it surprising that autoimmune diseases are on the rise.
What to do? More pharmaceuticals. I think not.
How about decreasing intake of the offending agents while increasing the intake of organic anti-inflammatory whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, grass fed/pasture raised beef and wild salmon rich in Omega 3 fats?
Be good to your gut, your body, your brain. Get whole foods at the market this Saturday!
Be well! See you at the market!
