Pitabilities is Back! This Week's Green Plate Special!

Quickly becoming a favorite among market-goers, we welcome back our friends from Pitabilities! In addition to their wrap-worthy favorites, this week, you can munch on their CinnaChips drizzled with a kiss of SaraBee Honey.

The Green Plate Special is a weekly collaboration between a Market producer and a local food truck that will incorporate the producer's featured product in a special dish, just for the Farmers Market!

$1.00 of every Green Plate Special sold will be donated back to the Worthington Farmers Market to further our mission to "Encourage, support and promote the entrepreneurial efforts of local, independent, and small-scale farmers and food artisans seeking to sell their products directly to consumers."

Find the Green Plate Special at the Pitabilities food truck on the east side of High Street near US Bank during tomorrow's Market.

Help Us Connect the Dots!

Tomorrow, the team from the Ohio Farmers Market Network will be visiting the Market to

help us conduct a Rapid Market Assessment (RMA). Our participation in the RMA is an important first step in assessing the impact of farmers markets around Central Ohio. The data gathered from these RMAs being conducted at farmers markets throughout the summer will help to expand access to fresh and healthy foods, increase fresh food promotion efforts, encourage the growth of specialty crops and products and strengthen the connection between consumers and producers.

So, grab a "dot" tomorrow and answer our 4-question RMA "dot survey". It's quick. It's easy. And, it matters! Find the RMA at the corner of E. New England and High, near Dewey's Plaza.

Rain, Rain, Please Just Go Away!

ICYMI - The rain is making is incredibly difficult to plant and harvest many of your favorite crops. From beef cattle to flowers to berries - The excessive rain, hail and overall lack of sun have contributed to late harvests and a short season for many spring favorites. Silver lining - The cool and cloudy days have offered an extended season for many cool weather crops like lettuce, kale, radishes and asparagus.

Worthington Farmers Market growers, Kate and Rachel, from Foraged and Sown were featured on the local news this week sharing how the weather has impacted their urban farm.

So many of our producers make their living from their sales at Central Ohio Farmers Markets. Let's show them our support - Saturday's are a great day to shop local and support your farmers!

Picnic with the Partnership

Spend the day in Worthington and make tomorrow a Super Saturday! Start your morning at the Market and enjoy a summer supper, community-style, on High Street for the annual Picnic with the Partnership. Tickets are still available, but sales end tonight!

The Market Wellness Doctor's Weekly Health Tip

Visit Dr. Matt in booth #74, near Dewey's Plaza

Lifestyle Matters. How we eat, move, sleep and manage stress has an enormous impact on health and longevity.

Health Tip #50: Let Food Be Your Medicine

Inflammation is associated with a host of chronic diseases, including but not limited to cardiovascular disease, hypertension, arthritis, diabetes and various cancers. Where do we start when it comes to balancing inflammation? We begin with food. Wholesome, real food and mostly plants. We reduce processed, manufactured food products which worsen inflammation.

Let's take a look at flaxseed. Research is showing a positive association with consumption of a few tablespoons of flaxseed daily and reduced amounts of age associated inflammation. Flaxseed is rich in anti-inflammatory Omega 3 fats which helps to balance the standard American diet, which is often high in Omega 6 fats, resulting in increased inflammation. (1)

Flaxseed is easily introduced into your daily nutrition. Consider sprinkling whole, organic flaxseeds on your salad and ground flaxseed in your smoothie each day.

See you at the Market!
