NEW! Maker at the Market - A Carpenter's Son

This Saturday, we're launching our newest addition to the Market, thanks to our partnership with CoHatch! Join me in welcoming A Carpenter's Son Design Co., our first Maker at the Market!

Based at The Madery at CoHatch's Library location in Worthington, you'll find A Carpenter's Son at booth #83 (on the UMC lawn) this Saturday. Browse examples of their furniture designs and purchase a beautiful wood cutting board for yourself or as a hostess gift for your 4th of July party!

The Maker's Story:

In early 2015, Josh and Laura Scheutzow started an Instagram account and Etsy shop solely as a platform to sell cutting boards to raise money for their upcoming domestic adoption.

Working hard to use the woodworking business to offset the domestic adoption fees, their Etsy shop and Instagram following exploded.

Almost five years later, the goal is the same; to make furniture that brings people together. Whether it's a new dining room table, coffee table, kitchen island, desk, or any other custom furniture piece you're looking for, A Carpenter's Son has you covered.

This Week's Green Plate Special - Bacon!

Breakfast is sizzling at the Market this week, literally! This week's Green Plate Special features bacon from Oink Moo Cluck Farms on a breakfast sandwich from Kenny's Meat Wagon.

The Green Plate Special is a weekly collaboration between a Market producer and a local food truck that will incorporate the producer's featured product in a special dish, just for the Farmers Market! $1.00 of every Green Plate Special sold will be donated back to the Worthington Farmers Market to further our mission.

Find the Green Plate Special at the Kenny's Meat Wagon food truck on the east side of High Street near US Bank during tomorrow's Market.

Welcome back, Saum Family Farm!

Finally! Sunny days are here, and with that, we celebrate the return of growers and crops that have been delayed by the cool, wet weather this spring.

Just in time for the 4th of July holiday, the first harvest of sweet corn is coming to the Market! This Saturday, we welcome back Saum Family Farm! Known for their Christmas trees, this weekend, they'll have corn! Fill your bag for that backyard BBQ with ears from Saum Family Farm and Rhoads Farm.

Sweet corn is perfect for grilling in the husk and nibbling off the cob or try it in this corn salsa!

The Market Wellness Doctor's Weekly Health Tip

Visit Dr. Matt in booth #74, near Dewey's Plaza

Lifestyle Matters. How we eat, move, sleep and manage stress has an enormous impact on health and longevity.

Health Tip #51: Does Restorative Sleep Really Matter?

Epidemiological studies published in Lancet indicate an association between sleep loss and increasing rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is shown to be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and increased mortality.

People sleeping less than 7 hours per night had a 48% increased rate of developing metabolic syndrome. People averaging less than 5 hours of sleep per night had a 55% greater rate of developing obesity. From the Nurses Health Study, it was shown that people averaging less than 5 hours sleep per night had a 19% greater risk of developing high blood pressure.(1)

Recent statistics show that greater than 40% of Americans get the recommended minimum of 7 hours sleep nightly. This results in a much greater likelihood of developing a minimum of 10 chronic health conditions including depression, arthritis, asthma, and diabetes.

Ground breaking research in 2018 has shown that sleep deprivation in humans is associated with increased levels of oxidative stress and reduced mitochondrial function, our cellular source of energy production. This is a big problem!

Sleep is a cornerstone for a healthy, joyful life The good news is that sleep can be improved. A 2019 review study showed that mind-body therapy such as meditation, tai chi, qigong and yoga are effective for treating insomnia and improving sleep quality.(2)

Additionally, supporting your body's production of melatonin through natural sources such as tropical fruits like bananas, pineapple and oranges may also be helpful for improving your sleep quality.(3)

See you at the Market!
