What will YOU discover at the Worthington Farmers Market this week?!

The Blueberry Patch is Back!

It's beginning to look a lot more like SUMMER!

The sunny days have helped to ripen those blueberries, and you can celebrate by the bucket-full this week! And, if you need another reason to #GetBluewithUs, National Pick Blueberries Day is July 10!

Tomorrow, we welcome back our long-time friends from The Blueberry Patch in Mansfield. I spent my 4th of July out among their Bluetta bushes, one of the earliest varieties you can enjoy, and I can't wait to make a batch of blueberry honey sauce with the new cardamom citrus-infused honey from Honeyrun Farm.

Toad Hill Farm and Gillogly Orchard also anticipate having blueberries available for tomorrow's Market.

This Week's Green Plate Special - Microgreens!

Microgreens from Franklinton Farms are dressing up the chicken breakfast biscuit from Ajumama's Korean Street Food for this week's Green Plate Special! Microgreens are min, nutrient-dense seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs. You'll find a variety of microgreens available at the Market, and they're easy to use in the kitchen. Toss them in a salad, enjoy them like fresh greens or add them to your morning smoothie or breakfast scramble.

Find the Green Plate Special at the Ajumama food truck on the east side of High Street near US Bank during tomorrow's Market.

The Green Plate Special is a weekly collaboration between a Market producer and a local food truck that will incorporate the producer's featured product in a special dish, just for the Farmers Market! $1.00 of every Green Plate Special sold will be donated back to the Worthington Farmers Market to further our mission.

Coming Soon! Reusable Produce Bags

But, first, we need fabric! For the next three weeks, the Sustainability Committee of the Old Worthington Partnership will be collecting fabric donations. The donated fabric will be used to create reusable produce bags that will be available to Farmers Market customers later this season. Find that collection bin at the Market Information booth at the corner of High Street and New England.

No Market Sharpener this Week

Leave those knives and garden tools at home this week. Your friendly Market Sharpener is enjoying a vacation the next two weeks. Look for him to return for the July 20th Market.

The Market Wellness Doctor's Weekly Health Tip

Visit Dr. Matt in booth #74, near Dewey's Plaza

Lifestyle Matters. How we eat, move, sleep and manage stress has an enormous impact on health and longevity.

Health Tip #52: Strawberries, Taste Great and Great for Your Health!

Strawberries are often under appreciated for their health benefits, but many studies are documenting their powerful health impacts. Cardiovascular benefits include lowering the "bad" LDL cholesterol and reducing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, thus rendering it less harmful.

Additionally, strawberries relax blood vessels thus improving blood flow and oxygen delivery to the tissues. One large study showed a 34% reduction in heart attacks associated with the strawberries ability to improve antioxidant capacity.

Markers of inflammation have also been shown to be reduced with increased strawberry consumption in obese patients with osteoarthritis. More importantly, there was a significant reduction in knee pain and cartilage degradation.

Flavonoids in strawberries have been shown to be associated with significantly reducing cognitive aging.

These are just a few of the many health benefits of the delicious strawberry. (1)
