August 10-Celebrate National Farmers Market Week
Join us at the Market, next week, too, as we celebrate National Farmers Market Week at the August 10 Market. In addition to all your favorite producers and activities, we'll have plenty of festivities for the entire family! Enjoy acoustic guitarist, Free Range Chicken from 10am-12pm. Park once, and visit both the Clintonville and Worthington Farmers Markets when you hop on the trolley. Pick-up a friendly competition with our corn hole boards and oversized versions of your favorite board games, like Jenga and Connect 4. And, kids can build and race their own zucchini "cars"! Free zucchinis will be available for children wanting to build their racer at the Market Information Booth tomorrow. Please, limit 1 zucchini per child.
Green Plate Special - Breakfast Hodduk
Make a stop at the Ajumama food truck for breakfast at the Market, tomorrow! Our Market Green Plate Special will feature bacon from Oink Moo Cluck in a breakfast hodduk!
What's a hodduk? Ajumama proprietor, Laura Lee, explains that it's a breakfast version of a Hot Pocket. A popular Korean street food, hodduk is a filled "pancake" that can have sweet or savory fillings.

Find the Green Plate Special and the Ajumama food truck on the east side of High Street near US Bank during tomorrow's Market.
The Green Plate Special is a weekly collaboration between a Market producer and a local food truck that will incorporate the producer's featured product in a special dish, just for the Farmers Market! $1.00 of every Green Plate Special sold will be donated back to the Worthington Farmers Market to further our mission.
Oh, SNAP!
Yes! The Worthington Farmers Market accepts SNAP!
After a l-o-n-g renewal process, we're back up and running! Swipe your Ohio Direction card at the Market Information booth (located at the corner of High Street and E. New England) and we'll match your purchase, $1 for $1, up to $20 per day, with Produce Perks. Produce Perks are accepted by all of our fresh fruit and veggie farmers for your fresh produce purchase.

Lifestyle Matters. How we eat, move, sleep and manage stress has an enormous impact on health and longevity.
Health Tip #56: Fresh Watermelon and Tomatoes for Remarkable Health Benefits!
Watermelon and tomatoes are two excellent food sources for the potent antioxidant, lycopene, present in red fruits and vegetables. Lycopene, which may be useful in preventing or treating prostate cancer, atherosclerotic heart disease, sunburn, oral leukoplakia (white patches in the mouth with increased risk of cancer) and infertility.(1)
Lycopene has been shown to reduce inflammation, cholesterol and oxidative stress (reactive oxygen species) in humans which may be present in many chronic diseases.(2)
There could be as many as 40 potential health benefits associated with lycopene. A 2012 study showed that watermelon extract was associated with lowering blood pressure, which is thought to be due to improving the blood vessels ability to relax. Watermelon is rich in an amino acid called L-citrulline which was shown in a 2007 study to be associated with improving blood sugar control and improved vascular function. Perhaps fresh fruit like watermelon, in its whole food form, could actually be good for people with diabetes! Finally, watermelon seeds were shown to be a rich source of protein in a 2011 study.(3)
Make watermelon and tomatoes your medicine at the farmers market this Saturday!
See you at the Market!
