Here's What's Fresh at the Worthington Farmers Market this Saturday
Fresh Finds from our Veggie Spy

The Veggie Spy's Pick of the Week?
The cocktail cucumber!
According to Somerset Herbs, growers of this variety of cuke, the cocktail cucumber is a yellow slicing cucumber with a sweet, bright flavor and a juicy crunch. It has just a few small seeds, making it ideal for...cocktails! Even better, combine them with Simple Times' fresh-squeezed juice cocktail mixers! Or, dip them in tasty hummus from Hummavore.
Get a cuke of the cocktail type,

Branstool Orchards Returns!
Throughout the summer, many of you have asked where's the "peach guy?" That "peach guy" is Marshall Branstool of Branstool Orchards. The extended cold and sub-zero temperatures this past January froze a majority of the orchard's peach blossoms, so there weren't any peaches to sell at this summer's farmers markets.
As it turns out, that January cold was just what the apple orchard needed! So, Marshall will be back at the Worthington Farmers Market, this Saturday, with four early varieties of Branstool Orchards' apples - Zestar, Ginger Gold, Tsugaru, and Elstar.
Say, "hello", to Marshall this Saturday, at booth #9, near the Bubbles Tea storefront.

Green Plate Special - The Breakfast Pita is Back!
Enjoy farm fresh eggs from Brown Brothers (Paris, OH) in this week's Green Plate Special and a Market favorite - the breakfast pita from Pitabilities!
Find the Green Plate Special and the Pitabilities food truck on the east side of High Street near US Bank during tomorrow's Market.
The Green Plate Special is a weekly collaboration between a Market producer and a local food truck that will incorporate the producer's featured product in a special dish, just for the Farmers Market! $1.00 of every Green Plate Special sold will be donated back to the Worthington Farmers Market to further our mission.
Community Table: Son of an Immigrant

This week's Community Table host is Son of an Immigrant. Get to know the mission of this unique organization by visiting booth #83, on the lawn of the United Methodist Church.
Son of an Immigrant is a for-profit company that sells t-shirts that promote the message that, when you think about it, we are all sons and daughters of immigrants. They have teamed up with Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) and, to date, 100% of the profits from the t-shirts and their "We are glad you are our neighbor" signs have supported the good work CRIS does.
CRIS is an independent non-profit organization that serves the growing refugee and immigration population in Central Ohio, providing valuable services to facilitate sustained self-sufficiency and successful integration in the populations they serve.

More to do at the Market!

This month's Market Sprouts activity is for the birds...Really! Kiddos can enjoy a free make-n-take activity at Saturday's market. Find the Market Sprouts booth in the Graeter's parking lot.
Bring your mat and your water bottle and join Jade Yoga and Wellness for morning Yoga on the Green - 8am to 9am
And, be sure to stop by the lawn in front of the United Methodist Church to enjoy the sounds of our Open Mic at the Market performances from 9am-11:30am. Or, stop by and see Chip to sign-up for a performance time!
The Market Wellness Doctor's Weekly Health Tip
Visit Dr. Matt in booth #74, near Dewey's Plaza
Lifestyle Matters. How we eat, move, sleep and manage stress has an enormous impact on health and longevity.
Health Tip #58: It's All About the Gut
Many chronic diseases begin in the gut. The digestive system is the root of our health. Gastro-intestinal tract issues may be correlated to underlying chronic health problems including auto-immune diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, heart disease and skin problems, such as eczema and acne.
Healthy gut flora (good bacteria) play a significant role in disease prevention, protecting us from pathogens, providing for detoxification, helping us to assimilate vitamins and minerals and the good bacteria even produce B vitamins.
70% of our immune system resides in the gut. So, how do we promote a healthy gut? Remove stressors such as allergic foods, parasites, bacteria and yeast. Replace digestive secretions and add back digestive enzymes - hydrochloric acid and bile acids that are required for proper digestion. Reinoculate the gut with probiotic foods that help beneficial bacteria to flourish. Provide probiotic, high soluble fiber foods that the good bacteria consume for their own nutrition. Repair the gut lining by supplying key nutrients that may be in short supply such as zinc, antioxidants like vitamins A,C and E, fish oil and the amino acid, glutamine. Finally, re-balance important lifestyle choices such as sleep, exercise and stress which are all essential for optimal digestive health.
See you at the Market!
