Here's What's Fresh at the Worthington Farmers Market this Saturday

Fresh Picks from our Veggie Spy

Meet the Mighty Microgreen!

Don't let the name fool you, microgreens are a BIG deal. Microgreens are seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs that are harvested when they’re 7 to 14 days old and a few inches tall. These tiny veggies are dense with nutrients, many times more than what is found in the mature leaves. And they are packed with surprisingly intense flavors. Commonly grown microgreens include arugula, broccoli and radish. Use them as a garnish and in sandwiches, salads and snacks. Go to 9N Farm and Franklinton Farms, ask for a sample and stock up on these little delights!

The Market Wellness Doctor's Weekly Health Tip

Visit Dr. Matt in booth #74, near Dewey's Plaza

Lifestyle Matters. How we eat, move, sleep and manage stress has an enormous impact on health and longevity.

Health Tip #63: What About Detoxification? (Part 2)

How can we support our bodies innate ability to remove toxins safely?

Sauna therapy has been used in many cultures for hundreds of years, and research has demonstrated its health promoting effects including stress reduction, removal of fat soluble toxins, lowering blood pressure and decreasing pain.

Exercise has been shown to enhance adipose tissue circulation (where fat soluble toxins like pesticides get stored) and increase release of these stored toxins. Additionally, sweating as a result of cardiovascular exercise supports detoxification.

Nutrition, may be the most important step in supporting our bodies ability to manage harmful substances. First, by avoiding the intake of harmful substances by eating organic foods, we reduce the intake of environmental pollutants thereby reducing artificial additives, unhealthy fats and excess sugar. Eating organic, plant-based foods, especially fermented ones, will help support a healthy microbiome which in turn helps us avoid some chronic illnesses like obesity and diabetes. Intermittent fasting, 12-16 hours out of every 24 hours, has been shown in many studies to support overall well being and increase longevity. One way fasting sensibly helps is through our body's ability to break down fats for energy which in turn may help eliminate toxins from the body.

Manual therapies, like massage, have been shown to enhance the ability of the lymphatic, cardiopulmonary and hepatorenal circulatory systems to eliminate toxins. Mind-body therapies, meditation and breath work may help us address what is arguably the most significant toxin most of us face daily - stress.

I hope this helps you to begin to move toward a better awareness of how your body has an innate ability to be well and how you can support your body, naturally.(1)
