The Market Wellness Doctor's Weekly Health Tip
Mindful Awareness
When much around us seems out of control, we may have feelings of helplessness or even anxiety. Many are experiencing increased stress and having difficulty focusing. This may reflect an imbalance between our sympathetic (fight-flight) and our parasympathetic (rest and digest) autonomic nervous systems. These symptoms may increase immune imbalance, reducing our ability to stay healthy.
What are we to do?
A good place to start is personal mindful awareness. Many studies show that mindful awareness developed with daily meditation has important benefits including stress management, anxiety reduction and cultivating peace of mind. Incorporating daily mindful awareness practices can help improve autonomic nervous system balance and regulate the production of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Start with 5-10 minutes of daily meditation. Headspace.com has some great suggestions on how to get started!
Be well.
