Veggie Spy & Versatile Vegan

Fruit is on the Way!
We reviewed the delights of sour cherries last week, and this week we’ll see more early fruits if the weather cooperates. Cross your fingers and arrive close to the opening bell for the most variety! Franklinton Farms hopes to have currants and raspberries!
Currants are a flowering bush that produces small berries that can be a variety of colors including red, black, and white. They tend to have a strong fruit flavor and can be either tart or sweet. So, ask for a sample! Note that currants can also refer to a type of raisin, but that is unrelated to the currants at the Market.
The Versatile Vegan suggests you enjoy currants in this Vegan Red Currant Crumble. Or try an Indian twist with this Red Currant Chutney. Raspberries are delicious on their own, and will also work well in these Vegan Raspberry Muffins. Or make this super-easy Raspberry Vinaigrette.

The fruit frenzy continues at Mayapple Farms who hope to have the beginnings of their blueberry crop!

Pick Up After Your Pooch
Poop, it happens. Follow Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District ‘s program and P.U.P. (Pick Up Poop) then pop the poop in the LANDFILL side of our downtown waste collection bins.
Because poop is a contaminant when it comes to recycle collection. And could lead to the entire recycling collection being sent to the landfill.

But isn’t it natural? Shouldn’t I leave it to fertilize the soil?
Your pet does not eat a natural local diet. Their waste washes into the storm drains and “Dog waste contains nitrogen and phosphorus, which can deplete oxygen that fish and other water-based life need to survive, as well as encourage the growth of harmful algae.
It is also considered a significant source of pathogens like fecal coliform, a disease-causing bacteria” (www.usda.gov)

The Worthington Farmers Market is an event of The Worthington Partnership.
