Food Truck - McGinnis Grill

We are excited to welcome McGinnis Grill to our food truck line-up for the outdoor market!

Chef John McGinnis has spent his entire working life in the service industry -- from concession stands to fine dining, and everywhere in between. Along the way, he discovered his biggest passions lie in sandwiches and comfort food, combining unique flavors with classic standards.

Chef John's "Market Special" features cheese from Black Radish Creamery, fresh greens from Franklinton Farms, and aioli made from Oink Moo Cluck eggs!

Caprese Grilled Cheese

Hand stretched mozzarella, spinach, arugula, Fresh tomato, caramelized onion, balsamic reduction, pesto aioli, grilled artisan bread

The McGinnis Grill food truck menu will also feature several of Chef John's popular brunch/breakfast items and a yogurt parfait.

The truck will be parked in front of US Bank on the east side of High Street between the Rock Dove Farm and Gillogly Orchard booths.

Veggie Spy & Versatile Vegan

If You Like Local, You’ll Love Local Squared!

A hallmark of all farmers markets is an emphasis on having local producers. All vendors at our Market are from Ohio and the majority are from Central Ohio. Shopping the Market is a wonderful way to help local, small business and keep your dollars in the community. Producers in turn often obtain their ingredients locally, and in many cases from fellow Market vendors – that’s local squared!

Shepard Baking, for example, uses Foraged & Sown tea in their Shortbread Cookies, and uses Mud Run Organics flour for their sourdough crackers. Sweet Thing Gourmet uses eggs from Sippel Family Farm in their biscotti and their Cider Jelly has Gillogly Orchards apple cider. Like many producers, Yawning Bear Bread has seasonal products with local ingredients. Later in the year they will source Rosemary from Foraged & Sown for their popular Rosemary Sourdough.

Our granola vendors are also ultra local. Scoop ‘O Granola uses HoneyRun Farm honey in their Honey Sweetened Almond variety. And La Dolce Nola’s Buckeye granola has peanut butter from Shell-Dust.

There are plenty more connections like this at the Market. Don’t hesitate to ask producers where they source their ingredients – they love to talk about their products!

Veggie Update

Foragers and those in the know look forward to early Spring when ramps come up. Ramps are a type of wild onion native to Appalachia and have a short season. The entire plant is edible, including the small underground bulb. Although they are sometimes called wild leeks, ramps are not leeks and have a much more intense flavor. The combination of the delicate leaf texture and intense flavor have turned the once modest green into a culinary star.

They work well in salads or as a garnish, and the bold flavor really comes through when they are sautéed or grilled. Visit Blue Owl to get fresh ramps!

The Versatile Vegan suggests you extend the brief ramps season with Pickled Ramps. For this tasty Ramps and Mushrooms Sauté, get mushrooms from Mayapple Farms or New Path Farm! Or, make your own spring seasoning with Ramp Sea Salt!

Mustard greens and collards are back at Franklinton Farms, but in limited quantities. After a lull due to a damaged greenhouse, Rock Dove once again has their popular arugula, as well as spinach and chives!

Producers have the following available this week. In some cases, items may sell out before the Market ends.

Apples, Arugula, Cabbage, Chives, Cider, Claytonia, Collard Greens, Garlic, Herbs - various, Kale, Lettuce, Microgreens & shoots, Mushrooms – multiple varieties, Mustard Greens, Parsley, Pears, Radishes, Senposai, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Turnips
