Veggie Spy
Soup is Good Great Food!
Archeologists have found vessels for cooking soup that are over 20,000 years old. Soup was great back then and it still is today! There’s nothing like a warm bowl of tasty soup on a cold, icy, winter day. Here are some yummy soups you can make with veggies from the Market. These are all vegan courtesy of the Versatile Vegan but can easily be modified to fit any palate.

Vegetarian Pho
Pho (pronounced “fuh”) is a hearty noodle soup that is a staple of Vietnamese cooking. Our local Vietnamese restaurants typically have multiple pho varieties on their menus. Traditionally made with beef, there are plenty of non-meat variations including this one. It has shiitake mushrooms which you can get from Tiger Mushroom and Blue Owl Emporium.
And you can get the suggested garnish of green onions at 9N Farm.
Sweet Potato, Kale and Chickpea Soup
Do sweet potatoes and kale go together? Of course they do! This recipe includes chickpeas to make a delicious soup that may remind you of Thanksgiving. Sweet potatoes are available at 9N Farm and you can pick up kale at Jorgensen Farms.
Vegan Ramen Soup With Tofu
Ramen, a Japanese noodle soup, seems to get more popular every year. This tofu version calls for carrots and spinach (Franklinton Farms, Jorgensen Farm and 9N Farm), scallions (9N Farm), and garlic (several producers). And you can swap the porcini mushrooms out for Shiitakes from Tiger Mushroom and Blue Owl Emporium.
Miso Soup with Sweet Potatoes and Greens
Miso is another popular Japanese soup. Miso is a paste made from fermented soybeans and grains that is available in most grocery stores. This quick and easy soup includes sweet potatoes (9N Farm). Many different greens will work with this soup, so check out what’s available at Franklinton Farms, Jorgensen Farm, 9N Farm, and Rock Dove Farm.
Apple Soup

Who knew apples are ideal for soup? If you never tried apple soup, this Creamy Vegan Carrot and Tart Apple Soup is a great way to start. It calls for Granny Smith apples which you can find at Gillogly Orchard and carrots which are available from several producers.
Fresh Picks for This Week Producers have the following available for online pre-order and/or at the Indoor Market.
Apples, Beets, Carrots, Claytonia (Miner's Lettuce), Garlic, Herbs, Kale, Leeks, Lettuce, Microgreens & shoots, Mushrooms (shiitake & oyster), Popcorn, Radishes, Scallions, Spinach, Sunchokes, Sweet Potatoes, Squash (multiple winter varieties)
Perfect Pairings
What to pair with an impending snow storm?

"3-C" short ribs from assistant market manager, Karen!
For her #perfectpairing, Karen introduced Silver Bridge Coffee Company's 614 Blend to beef short ribs, pre-ordered from VanScoy Farms.

For this cozy match, Karen made a homemade rub from the ground coffee, chiles, and cocoa - the 3-C's! (and a few other seasonings). She seared the short ribs and then braised, low and slow, in extra dark stout and homemade beef stock.
A warm and comforting meal to look forward to while you're shoveling all of that incoming snow!

Our First Taste-Along!

Date night, Girls Night In, or some well-deserved "me" time...It's Saturday night, and you're invited to join the Worthington Farmers Market for a virtual cheese and wine pairing with Kokoborrego Cheese Company in celebration of their 10-year anniversary!
Join us on Facebook Live on the Worthington Farmers Market Facebook page at 5 pm on Saturday, February 20!
You’ll meet the cheese makers (virtually, of course!) - sister and brother team, Lisa Sippel and Ben Baldwin of Kokoborrego Cheese Company and Sippel Family Farm.
Lisa and Ben have selected four (4) of their seasonal cheeses to showcase during the tasting . . .
Two sheep's milk varieties: Oveja Negra and Owl Creek Tomme
Two cow's milk varieties: Headwaters Tomme and Enceladus (a Market management FAVORITE!)

The cheese package costs $30. Order directly from Kokoborrego - http://www.kokoborrego.com/store
Pre-order your cheese package for the Taste-Along and pick-up at the Worthington Farmers Market this Saturday, Feb 20.
Donnie Austin, Worthington resident, and sommelier has put together excellent recommendations for wines to complement each individual cheese as well as a single bottle (or two!) that pair well with the cow's milk or sheep's milk cheeses, or the entire cheese flight. A full description of Donnie's wine recommendations can be found in the WFM Facebook Event content, along with suggested food accompaniments also available at the market.
Ready to join? Please register here to let us know you're coming: https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MTA3NTA2
This is a virtual event, so there are no tickets. There is no cost to participate beyond the purchase of the cheese (and any wine and/or accompaniments you may choose).
Donations to the Worthington Farmers Market, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, are greatly appreciated and can be made at the time of registration.
An RSVP through our registration site will ensure you are notified of all future Taste-Along events!
Pandemic Protocols

The health and safety of our customers, our producers, our volunteers and our staff remains our highest priority. We remain committed to our pandemic safety protocol to continue to provide a direct source for local food. Masks are required for all guests visiting the Worthington Farmers Market and must cover nose and mouth at all times.
Capacity into the Market space is limited to ensure proper social distancing. And, space between producer stalls has increased to allow for wider aisles and additional space for customers waiting to make their purchases. Our pandemic safety protocol can be found here: https://www.worthingtonfarmersmarket.com/covid-19-operations
We will continue to adhere to the requirements set forth for us by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Columbus Public Health Department. Should we need to change the format of the Market, we will post updates on our website: https://www.worthingtonfarmersmarket.com/

The Worthington Partnership is pleased to announce that COhatch is furthering its investment in the Worthington community. Together the organizations will continue to drive initiatives to bring positive attention to the historic district, and support professional development and educational seminars for local merchants and business owners. The Partnership also will support soon-to-be-announced COhatch community events geared toward improving the lives of local residents.
COhatch will provide funding, hosting venues and people resources to help design and plan future programs for the community in collaboration with the Old Worthington Partnership. You will also see the COhatch airstream trailer, a multi-purpose office on wheels named "Mobi" at various events.
Thanks to COhatch for bringing energy and resources to Old Worthington! We are thrilled to work even more closely together to enhance the Old Worthington experience.
