Gift Giving 101

Looking for a perfect gift for the naughty and nice on your list? Want to give gifts that taste good and make an impact? Give local!

Here are 5 ideas to get you started:

1. LOVE YOUR MARKET Not sure what to give a picky eater but know they love a good farmers market? Give a Worthington Farmers Market tote and gift certificates to buy whatever they want!

2. THE MARKET IS OUR JAM There's no shortage of handmade jams and preserves at the market - sweet, savory, fruity or tart. Sweet Thing Gourmet and Black Radish Creamery are perfect options for building a delicious gift basket which is sure to be the jam!

3. SWEETS FOR YOUR SWEET Producers like Patisserie Lallier, Michael's Artisan Chocolates and Gourmet Candy by Karen have all the sweets you need for that special sweet tooth in your life. All handmade and sure to satisfy a hankering for something good!

4. MAKE IT A GOUDA ONE Sheep's milk, cow's milk or goat's milk - all milk makes good cheese! Whether it's just a cheese plate from Kokoborrego Cheese, Blue Jacket Dairy, and Black Radish Creamery, or a charcuterie plate that includes a little something from the Salami Squash at North Country Charcuterie, cheese lovers everywhere would be proud!

5. THE MARKET SAMPLER Not sure what to get? Get it all! Grab a tote and fill it with all the handmade goodness you can fit inside. A wonderful option for giving unique gifts to each and every person on your list!

Health Tip #24: Hot chocolate Naturally Boosts Your Immune System

Researchers recently have shown that cocoa in hot chocolate significantly increased natural killer cell activity, an indicator of our bodies natural immune response. Natural killer cells recognize and eliminate influenza virus infected cells in our body to prevent spread of the illness. Hot cocoa was also shown to have a significant anti-inflammatory effect, thus contributing to the elimination of the flu virus. Polyphenols in cocoa are powerful anti-oxidants which have a broad spectrum anti microbial effect in the oropharynx, precisely where the flu virus often takes hold. (1)
