Â
Health Tip #48: Toxin Removal,One Key to Health
Â
Â
To optimize our health we must increase our daily intake/exposure to life-giving substances like organic whole foods and fresh clean mineral rich water. Additionally, we need to maximize our bodies ability to get rid of the daily toxins to which we are exposed, while decreasing our daily exposure to these toxins. These are two areas of focus for optimizing health/wellness.
Â
Let's focus on a few chemical threats in our daily environment. First, eliminate the use of non-stick cookware which has been shown to be associated with an increased risk of reproductive, nerve and kidney toxicity and cancers.
Â
Decrease the use of conventional chemical cleaners like ammonia and bleach which are known to be strong irritants to our lungs, eyes, skin, kidneys and liver. Use safer homemade cleaners like baking soda and vinegar.
Â
Avoid petrochemical-based air fresheners that are respiratory irritants and are associated with birth defects, heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer.
Â
Avoid the use of mercury containing compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Â
Avoid using and being exposed to chemical fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides. Roundup (glyphosphate) has been shown to associated with a host of health issues including reproductive problems, cancers and genotoxic effects.
Â
Avoid the use of pillows, cushions, mattresses and fabrics treated with flame retardants like polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE's) linked to liver, thyroid and neurological problems.
Â
Avoid using fabric softeners which contain numerous chemicals associated with nervous system and respiratory disorders and cancers.
Â
Finally, decrease the use of plastic bags and bottles, most of which contain bisphenol A (BPA) known to be associated with hormonal disruption.(1)
Â
So, one key to better health lies in decreasing our exposure to common environmental toxins in our daily lives.
Â
